NEVER GIVE UP is an intergenerational community media project inspired by the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Welsh dragon on our flag.
This is the dragon who NEVER GAVE UP , but persevered against all odds. The project equips young people from the CATCH 22 Youth Inclusion Project to meet, interview and film local older people and create documentaries and a website to present to their peers in schools and youth groups across Cardiff.

Working with professional digital media artists, they captured the spirit of the dragon, alive in our communities, through real-life stories of determination and perseverance from older citizens.

Activities for young people:
1. Hands-on training in all aspects of documentary film-making, including: camera work, photography, lighting, sound, directing, interviewing, video editing, and DVD production.

2. Meeting, interviewing and filming older people.

3. Active participation in every step of the project.

4. Presenting results to the wider community in schools and youth groups, and speaking in public.

5. Preparing and facilitating discussions with peers in response to their own product.

The documentary is now available to the Youth Service as a resource for facilitating discussions about perseverance, ambition, and intergenerational relationships. This enables the project to directly benefit youth groups across Cardiff, and, along with the web presence, ensures that the project will have a long-lasting positive impact on young people.

We wish to thank the Cardiff Youth Service through W.A.G. and V.A.C. for funding this project.
